Wool Week returns for its 10th year
Wool has always formed a core part of the Celtic & Co. collection and we'll always be first to sing its praises. Learn about our support for the Campaign for Wool and why we think wool is such a super material.
The Campaign for Wool’s annual Wool Week will return this October to mark it’s tenth year. Launched in the UK in 2010 by Prince Charles, the Campaign for Wool aims to educate, inspire and promote the benefits of wool. The 2019 Wool Week will see key industry experts, retailers, brands, tailors and designers involved in events, activities and workshops throughout the UK, to highlight wool as a planet-friendly fibre.
Why we love wool
Natural & Renewable
What could be more natural than wool? Each year sheep produce a fleece, making wool a natural and renewable resource. As yet, no one has been able to reproduce the properties of wool synthetically in one fibre.
Biodegradable
At the end of its useful life, wool can be returned to the soil, where it decomposes, releasing valuable nutrients into the ground. When a natural wool fibre is disposed of in soil, it takes a very short time to break down, unlike synthetic fibres, which are extremely slow to degrade.
Natural Insulator
Wool gives superior insulation performances compared to man-made fibres – it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Used in the home, wool insulation helps to reduce energy costs and prevents the loss of energy to the external environment, therefore reducing carbon emissions.
Breathable
Wool fibres are crimped, and when tightly packed together, form millions of tiny pockets of air. This unique structure allows it to absorb and release moisture in the perspiration from the wearer, making it extremely breathable.
Easy Care & Odour Resistant
Wool is unique in that it doesn’t need to be washed as often as synthetic fibres due to its odour and thermal regulation properties and the ability to repel dirt and stains. And when wool is washed, any micro-fibres that are released in the wash are biodegradable unlike man-made fibres that release harmful micro-plastics into the environment.
