We are celebrating 30 years of sustainable fashion with an exclusive Icon Collection
The year 2020 marks a very special occasion for us all here at Celtic & Co.. 30 years ago, in August 1990, Nick and Kath Whitworth started the foundation of what we’re proud of today: a sustainable slow-fashion brand, using exclusively natural fibres sourced responsibly and as local as possible, to create timeless footwear, womenswear, menswear, accessories and homeware. To mark the occasion and celebrate the event, we did what we can do best – our talented product designers developed a capsule collection of the most popular pieces of the last 30 years – the Icon Collection.
We’ve looked back at our best-selling pieces over the years and have added a contemporary or extra special twist to the original design. With all our collections, it’s the little details that often make all the difference – the best quality natural yarns and naturally sourced trims.
The 30th anniversary is the “pearl” anniversary. So, Pearl Grey was the natural choice for the theme colour of the 12 iconic pieces of the collection. Pearl Grey is the centre of the colour palette, from where our designers started and added very Celtic, timeless, and neutral colours to the range. We have also updated the material of the pieces and added the extra special touches to them. The Icon Buckle Detail Coatigan for example is made of a mix of merino wool and alpaca, which makes it even softer than the original – perfect for the winter months. The pewter leather buckle strap in Pearl Grey finishes the exclusive look of this piece. We are also offering our classic Wilderness Boots in Tanners Brown, a brand-new colour for this boot. Accompanied by a fashionable sheepskin trim, the Icon Wilderness Boot is the perfect boot for all your adventures.
Another special touch within the Icon collection are the hand-made ceramic buttons on the Icon Cable Cardigan in Vintage Blue, created by the Cornwall based artist Mary Goldberg from Stockwell Ceramics. The specific design chosen by Mary was a piece of indigo fabric to mirror the colours of the sea and the structure of our favourite material, wool.
There’s also another birthday to celebrate! The ¾ Toscana Trim Coat is a loved and cherished part of our collections for the last 10 years. We have given it a new spin and reinterpreted it with a distinctive zebra print on gossamer-soft Toscana, keeping the nappa finish on the skin side that was so popular on the original.
Our classic Ladies Bootie Slippers and Turnback Mules, carefully handcrafted through our skilled artisans here in Newquay, shine in a lovely silver Pearl Grey colour, a resemblance to a style we offered 25 years ago for the first time. For Men we offer the Bootie Slipper in a stylish Dark Grey, which we have also adapted for our classic Celt Boot in Shortie & Regular height for both Men and Women.
This limited edition Icon Collection not only marks our 30th birthday, it also showcases who we are – bringing to life our heritage and our future.
