Paint It Black

This Halloween, turn to the dark side and embrace THE most wearable sleek shade - black!

A huge fan of the all-black look, Celtic & Co.'s Press & Social Media Officer - Emma Limn, talks through her favourite pieces for the spooky season and beyond...

B L A C K  -  Sleek, Smart & Surprisingly Stand Out

Autumn is my favourite time of the year. The nights are drawing in, leaves on the trees are turning and decorating the ground with beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red. Preparations are being made for fun traditions like pumpkin carving, costume making for Halloween parties, bobbing for apples and let's not forget bonfire building for Guy Fawkes night!

It's also the time of year that people turn to the darker shades in their wardrobes, introducing berry tones, moody blues and autumnal rusty oranges to their looks. However, if you're anything like me, I just love wearing black, head to toe some days! So here's my favourite picks from the current collection.

Mix It Up...

First off, try mixing up different textures such as leather and knitwear, both in the same tone. Our Slouchy Fine Knit Roll Neck and our sexy butter-soft Stretch Leather Leggings are the perfect pair. The contrast of the satin leather and the matte merino lambswool achieves sleek stand out style. Add our black suede Wilderness Boots for another layer of texture to complete the look. Wear to the office, out on the town or even to a Halloween party - if you need to test the water with the all-black look first.

Casually Luxurious

If the idea of leather leggings scare you or you're just not ready take the plunge (but trust me they are absolutely divine to wear!), swap the leggings for your normal go-to black jeans. This will be sure to keep the all-black look casual for an effortless look.

Wax On...

Heading out with the family trick or treating, or attending the local park's firework display? Then be prepared for the elements in our Wax Rain Jacket - made in Great Britain from 100% waxed cotton. I love this piece as it doesn't have that sticky feeling that a traditional waxed jacket has. The cotton thread has been specially treated with the wax before production, giving protection from the wind and the rain. It's a perfect throw on practical piece that you can layer up underneath with a long sleeve top and shirt for warmth, finished off with a soft Lambswool Scarf in traditional tartan to add pattern.

Our gorgeous model Amelie is also pictured wearing our Essential Leather Ankle Boots in black suede - my second favourite to the Tomb Raider style Wilderness Boots. These cute boots feature a split ankle side so you can create a fold-over look. The black suede looks incredible over leather leggings when dressing up, or equally as nice when worn over black denim.

Rock This Roll Neck Dress...

If you fancy ditching leggings and jeans altogether, then why not bare the legs? For a relaxed yet sultry look for both day and night, our new Slouchy Fine Knit Roll Neck Dress offers perfect coverage for the colder months. Crafted in 100% merino lambswool, it is a light piece that keeps you warm. Our Co-Founder, Kath Whitworth recently rocked this look at a few of our shopping events around the UK and received endless compliments from customers who flocked to buy it after seeing it. It is definitely on my wish list this month!

Many of our sheepskin footwear styles are available in black, but none have the wow factor quite like our Celt Knee Boots. Seen above with our new roll neck dress, these boots are handcrafted in our workshop in Cornwall from 100% British sheepskin and are literally the warmest treats for your legs and feet this winter. Wear with a dress or over jeans, as they are or rolled down to expose more of the fluffy sheepskin.

Dare I Say... Introduce Some Colour

If the all-black look really isn't for you but you like elements of it, then introduce lighter tones alongside. This can help lift a look and put the focus on a certain item of clothing. Our Reversible Merino Double Zip Parka is a versatile piece that can be worn sheepskin or suede side out, and stands out perfectly over our charcoal Roll Neck Slouch Jumper.  Breaking up the all-black look further, we styled our leather leggings with some of our Ladies' Fair Isle Socks, adding yet more denim blues to the mix.

Many of our styles are offered in an array of different colours and tones to suit all tastes, such as our Slouchy Fine Knit Roll Neck in wine, so if black really isn't your thing, please feel free to browse our new collection here for all new product and colourway launches. If you do take the plunge with an all-black look, I'd love to see it! So post your snaps on social, and be sure to tag #celticandco
